21 Days of Gratitude

Publisher of Success Magazine, Darren Hardy, recently gave readers a challenge in a blog post on gratitude:

He writes:

"My challenge to you is to think of an area of your life you are having difficulty in and want to improve. For the next 21 days, take three minutes at the end of the day and write down what about that problematic situation you appreciate, what’s good and what you’re grateful for."

I have chosen the area of my marriage relationship to focus on with gratitude.  We’ve gone to marriage communication seminars and we attend a marriage small group at our church.  So we are growing at it.

Yet, I did not realize that there is so much to be thankful for.  After thinking about him, I realize that as an artist, my husband is my biggest fan.  I'm so grateful to God for him because:

*he reminds me to get adequate rest after long painting sessions
*he reads to my little one every day and puts her to bed at night(I can paint during this time)
*he supports me while I build my business(he won’t let it be a non-for-profit either)
*with him, I can just be

In about 22 days, we’ll celebrate our ninth year anniversary.  Our marriage is by no means perfect, but I know his support makes me a better person, a better mom and a better artist.

Okay.  Before you, my reader, I'm committing to the 21 day challenge.  For 21 days I’m going to take 3 minutes a day to journal what I’m grateful for about him.  I’ve already scheduled reminders in my online calendar.

And you?  Would you like to join me in this challenge?  If you can think of an area where you can practice a little gratitude, let me know and join me in the challenge.  Don’t be a quiet lurker.  Comment below.  Hold me accountable.  Please.

Sure! I would luv to do this too, and over the holidays, what better time. Are you starting as of today Toni? Hmm I'll give it some thought tonight and decide what my focus will be. Lord knows I have much to be grateful full, so gratitude is due.

Happy Thanksgiving, Toni! And thanks for this practical way to help us keep that attitude of gratitude throughout the upcoming holiday season as well!

Go Toni! What a wonderful practice. This expression of your gratitude will probably draw your attention to the many other positive things in your relationship...and your life too.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you all for your comments.

@Vanessa-I'd love it if you'd join me. Gratitude is really changing the way I'm viewing my life.

@Melanie-I hope your holiday was pleasant--you and I are in unity over the need for an attitude of gratitude.

@Jean-Thank you for your comment. You are so right--I am noticing so many many positive things lately.

What a great idea Toni! I often call my 11 year old son my greatest teacher and have been making more of an effort to focus on his gifts rather than challenges. I will join you! I also appreciate your commitment to your work and to your business, along with your family and spiritual practice as well.

So glad to have "met" you through this class.

Nanci, I'm so glad to have you join me. Children can teach us so much, right?

I appreciate your comments--it's a juggle--as you know, but it's totally worth it.

Good to meet you "virtually" as well.
